Requirements Clinical Research Nurse 1, Hemophilia Treatment Center – Georgetown University Medical Center The Clinical Research Nurse I coordinates interactions between team members, and assists in a liaison role, in the handling of the day-to-day problems of the hemophilia patient as he/she attempts to cope with his/her own environment. The Nurse provides services in an active multidisciplinary treatment center, participates in and training activities and community education with families, patients and health care providers; assists with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders related research; and provides a link between physician and patient/family. Primary duties include but are not limited to: Provides primary care within the scope of nursing practice: out-patient, in-patient and surgery services/plans for hemophilia patients. Directs patient care for drop-in patients: assessment and management of bleeding episodes in persons with hemophilia and other bleeding tendencies with infusion of the appropriate clotting factor or replacement product based on the guidelines of HTC/MASAC (Hemophiliac Treatment Centers/Medical and Scientific Advisory Council). Coordinates the monthly Hemophilia Comprehensive care Clinic; and establishes therapeutic patient care plans that are based on assessment of medical histories, physical examination, diagnostic procedures, laboratory results, and follow up. Provides telephone consultation and triage with patients, parents and families, primary care providers, and the community. Develops and participates in training and educational activities for patients, families, community, health care providers, hematology fellows and students. Implements, supports, and participates in research activities. Provides clinical care within the context of providing care for the persons enrolled on studies or those eligible for studies. Continues professional development, e.g., attending international, national, regional, and investigational meetings and educational conferences. Assists with grant writing, data collection, and with meeting the stated goals and objectives of the grants provided by the Maternal Child Health Bureau (MCHB), American Thrombosis and Hemostasis Network (ATHN), and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Supports the operation of the GTU 340B factor assistance, including patient recruitment, special care services, and clotting factor authorization. Works closely with the PI of the grant and the Regional Coordinating center who manages the grant to provide data and HTC activities reports as required by the grant. As a member of the HTC Administrators team, interacts with physicians from numerous subspecialties and ancillary medical personnel to coordinate and expedite patient care, as well as with research personnel as they apply to specific research projects; and assists with study visits and comply with protocol requirements.
